Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman, was the third child of the family. When she was young her carnival barker father passed away which left Ruth's mother without a choice other than to be a cleaning girl and waitress to support her family. Ruth lived in a slum Boston tenement neighborhood, Massachusetts. She attended school there. But she only stayed in school for two years before leaving to pursue her acting career. There were many hurdles to overcome on her path to success. Then, in New York she was hired to pose for photos in a crime magazine however, no theatre job opportunities came up. While in New York, she worked in a bar as an entry-point girl, before quitting and moving back to Boston. She was in Boston when she worked at late night, she was an actor for New England Repertory Company and the rest of the time she was an usherette. She also completed her studies at Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she specialized in drama.
